I am looking to rent a property and need some advice!?

Hi all i am looking to rent a property through a lettings agent and i need some advice on what type of credit checks they do, i have a few arrears with a loan and have missed payments and was wondering if this would effect my chances of getting the property? any advice on renting a property through an agent would be fab!
